Patina Pictures Backstage in London
Being a video producer has lots of perks, but one of my favorite aspects of filming corporate video is the travel. Last year clients brought my video production company to New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Diego, Nevada, Alaska, and best of all… London!
From left to right, Patina Pictures films video in London:
Here’s cameraman Brandon Moore on set at DocuSign’s MOMENTUM’15 London conference held at The Montcalm at The Brewery London City prepping for an interview. While Brandon and I quickly took the footage to our portable edit suite for some fast cutting, delivering the final product within 24-hours, stedicam operator, Drew Dorsey, continued to film video, getting up close and personal with DocuSign’s Brad Peterson.
But before the above video filming even started, I set Brandon and Drew out on the streets of London to capture some b-roll and atmospheric time lapse. B-roll is defined as supplemental or alternative footage that can be intercut with the main shot. Instead of remaining on an interview, b-roll can be used to further enhance a point, or visually draw your audience into the story. It’s also necessary to mask edits when crafting a storyline from a series of different soundbites.
Anyone who has worked with me also knows how much I love a good time lapse. Time lapse is defined as a photographic technique of taking a sequence of frames at set intervals to record changes that take place slowly over time. Then, when the frames are ramped up or shown in quick succession, the action can bring a lot of energy or drama to the screen.
See how the above time lapse and b-roll got incorporated into DocuSign’s final videos: “What Are You Hoping to Learn?” and “What is Your Biggest Takeaway?”
See how time lapse alone can tell a complete story, especially when used in your social media feeds: Digital is Here. Digital is Now.
