Turning the camera around on my Bay Area video production team doesn’t happen as often as it should. But now, thanks to SOSKIphoto, I have incredible still photographs that will be showcased throughout 2016.

When I scored my first film investment at the age of twenty-six, the investor assured me I’d be fine as a business owner as long as I continued to surround myself with people who knew more than I did.

Now, with more than a decade in business, I can safely say that one of the reasons Patina Pictures continues to thrive is because of the incredible crew I draw upon. From script writers to project managers, make up artist, camera operators, sound technicians, art directors, video editors and animators, Patina Pictures draws upon a conglomerate of video production artist from the Bay Area, New York, and Los Angeles.  

My job, as the resident producer of the Bay Area company, is to evaluate each project, assemble an appropriate crew, set that goals, schedule, and budget, and then guide everyone toward the finish line.

Often, I describe my job as organizing creative chaos for a living. I spend my time partnering with executives, business owners, or marketing teams, then wrangle creative ideas until they fit nicely into proposals, pitch decks, copy or scripts. Then I set budgets, schedules, and hire the contractors, all while distributing lists, actionable items, and deliverables. Finally, the chaos dissipates, and answers to otherwise complicated problems are solved.

K'Dee Miller is the Founder & Creative Director of Patina Pictures.

Her feature films have premiered at Sundance Film Festival, AFI Fest, Newport Beach Film Festival, among others. Her corporate video clients span from technology companies such as Microsoft, RingCentral, DocuSign and Adobe, to Bay Area nonprofits such as Team4Tech and Hamilton Families.

She's studied her industry from every angle, receiving production training from The Juilliard School, an MFA of Writing from University of San Francisco, and a BFA of Acting from Marymount Manhattan College.

She is currently in the process of writing a memoir about growing up in the wilderness of Alaska.
